Evening of Šantić at the House of Ivo Andrić

On the occasion of the 158th anniversary of the birth of the famous poet Alekse Šantić and the 120th anniversary of the publication of the cult poem “Boka”, the Herceg Novi City Library is organizing a literary-poetic evening “In Honor of Šantić”. The event takes place tonight at 7 p.m. in the House of Ivo Andrić.

Šantić stayed on the coast in April 1904. A photograph from the wedding of Stevo Nenadović and Jovanka Katić in front of the Church of the Holy Transfiguration in Igalo, which the famous poet attended as a guest of the Nenadović family, testifies to that time. It was precisely those days that inspired Šantić to write the poem “Boka” two years later – the anthem of the Bay of Kotor.

The poem was published in 1906 by the editor of “Srpskog književnog glasnika,” Jovan Skerlić.

• Talk on the 120th anniversary of the poem “Boka” – the director of the City Library and Reading Room Jasna Maslan and literature professor Tamara Komar from the “Ilija Kišić” Primary School in Zelenika
• Music program – pupils of the “Ilija Kišić” Primary School and pupils of the Herceg Novi Music School (director Nives Nenadović)
• Flowers laid at the bust of Alekse Šantić on Belavista – a delegation of representatives of the Library, Music School, and Municipality
