XIII Operosa Montenegro Opera Festival 2026 presents a chamber adaptation of the opera Balkanska Carica in the original orchestration for string ensemble.
Libretto: Nikola I Petrović Njegoš, based on the drama of the same name
Music: Dionizije De Sarno San Đorđo
This romantic-patriotic drama is based on the historical tragedy written by the King of Montenegro, Nikola I Petrović Njegoš. The opera is dedicated to the women of Montenegro, paying tribute to their qualities and uniqueness.
Significance: In honor of the twentieth anniversary of Montenegro’s independence, this Montenegrin opera of national importance will be one of the highlights of the XIII edition of the festival.
Performances:
The premiere production brings together tradition and modern expression. A contemporary of the great Italian opera composers Verdi and Puccini, Dionizije De Sarno San Đorđo brings the traditional bel canto style to the first Montenegrin national opera.
