A production by Grigori Kofman (Berlin) based on the works of Joseph Brodsky.
In the performance, lyrical St. Petersburg texts by Бродский are interwoven with the dramatic poem “Performance,” marked by harshness and sarcasm. It is a fusion of the image of the country and the author’s view of it.
Four puppets take part in the action, each expressing in its own way its opinion on the meaning of life. The performance turns into a comic drama with entrances, antics, strutting, and rogues.
Only through catastrophic efforts, including the clownish grimace of acting, is it possible to keep the parallel actions — the personal and the collective-communal — from collapsing into complete absurdity.
