XIII Operosa Montenegro Opera Festival 2026 brings an exclusive performance of the opera Balkanska carica in the unique setting of Mamula Island by Banyan Tree.
In the year when Montenegro marks twenty years since the restoration of independence, the audience will have the opportunity to experience one of the most significant works of Montenegro’s cultural heritage in a special chamber production, performed in the original orchestration for string ensemble.
Created after the play of the same name by King Nikola I Petrović Njegoš, with music by Dionizije de Sarne San Đorđa, Balkanska carica combines love, sacrifice, patriotism, and historical destiny into a powerful operatic story dedicated to the women of Montenegro – their strength, dignity, and perseverance.
Under the baton of Mihajla Miletića and directed by Nine Martinović, this premiere festival performance brings together distinguished artists from the region. The set design is by Angela Božović, and the costume design by Maša Mirković.

After the performance, guests will have access to the à la carte menu of the restaurant at Mamula Island. The number of seats for dinner is limited, and advance reservation is recommended.
Part of the ticket sales revenue will be donated to the Herceg Novi Music School for the purchase of instruments.
In case of unfavorable weather conditions, the event will be adapted to an alternative plan, and all possible changes will be communicated to guests in a timely manner.
