Synopsis: Bangui, Central African Republic. Seventeen-year-old Robert dreams of a career in music, but civil war is devastating the country. When his parents end up in prison, he is left alone to care for his four younger siblings. At the same time, he tries to balance everyday life, occasional jobs, school exams, and performances on concert stages, determined to pursue his dream.
About the Director: Rafiki Fariala was born in 1997 in Uvira, in Kivu (DR Congo). He discovered the world of film in 2017, during a documentary filmmaking course organized by Ateliers Varan in Bangui. Alongside his studies in economics at the University of Bangui, where he obtained a bachelor's degree and then a master's degree in human resources management, he directed the feature-length documentary We, Students! The film was screened at the Berlinale in 2022, as part of the Panorama program, and won numerous awards at festivals. Congo Boy is his first feature-length fiction film.
