This historical war drama is set during the Balkan Wars in 1912. Through the fate of one family, it portrays the price of freedom, love and sacrifice during a period of great historical upheavals. The story is told through the memories of Sofija, Sofka’s daughter, who, as the narrator, reveals family secrets, tragedies and events that forever marked her life.

At the heart of the story is a family whose fate was shaped by a time in which wars, national conflicts, revenge and the struggle for survival were intertwined. As the Balkans burn in the flames of war, Sofija grows up listening to stories from her grandfather Marko about lost lives, forbidden loves, family suffering and the injustice that left deep scars on all those who survived.

Through these memories, the tragic fate of her mother Sofka is revealed. Her life was marked by violence, coercion, loss and an unceasing effort to preserve her dignity and her family. Many of these events are gradually revealed through Sofija’s narration and the characters’ memories.

Guided by the truth about her ancestors and the desire to break the cycle of bloodshed and suffering, Sofija decides to follow the path of the komitas. A rifle, sabre, pistol and gusle become her weapons—not only in the fight against the enemy, but also in preserving the memory of those who gave their lives for freedom. Her journey becomes one of revenge, but also of maturation, in which she must choose between hatred and justice, the past and the future.

The film tells a story of family ties, honour, love, betrayal and forgiveness, set against the historical backdrop of the Balkan Wars. Through dramatic human destinies, great battles and intimate moments, it shows how historical events shape the lives of ordinary people and how personal tragedies become part of the collective memory of a nation.

It is a story of memory, family and sacrifice, of people who, in the most difficult times, preserved their faith, honour and hope. The film is also a testimony to generations who fought for their freedom, leaving their descendants the duty to remember the past and not allow its tragedies to be repeated.
