Japanese tea ceremony

🎪 Multicultural Festival “Castelwave”

📅 18. September · 18:00, · 19:00

Ivo Andrić House

The festival opens with the traditional Japanese tea ceremony, based on the principles of harmony, respect, peace, and purity. The ceremony is included on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Japan.

Due to the high level of interest, the ceremony in the setting of Andrić’s House will be held at two times: at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The program will be led by educator Milijana Vujaklija (Belgrade) from Japan’s renowned Edosenke school of tea, together with guest Ai Keto (Tokyo), a third-rank master of calligraphy. In addition to the tea preparation ritual, Ai Keto will give a short presentation on the traditional kimono and Japanese etiquette.

Holding the tea ceremony at the House of Iva Andrića carries special symbolism: in his work Unquiet, Andrić wrote “A Story about Japan” and was the first in our literature to mention the word Japan.
