A Pumping Station Failure Caused Water Pollution on the Beaches of Baošići

Due to a malfunction at the “Zmijica” pumping station, wastewater entered the sea at five beaches in Baošići (18G, 18F, 18E, 18H, 18D). The same fault caused an unpleasant odor in Zelenika and Kumbor, and it is also periodically noticeable near the wastewater treatment facilities in Meljine.

What happened to the pump. According to Стефана Марковича, executive director of the Society for the Construction of Water Supply and Sewerage Infrastructure, the pump was temporarily unable to handle the load and almost completely stopped on Sunday. A new pump was installed on Tuesday morning—the system resumed normal operation, and the odor disappeared.

Water quality. Analyses of seawater conducted on August 17, 19, and 21 showed elevated levels of bacteria (E. coli and enterococci) at the “Baošići 01” beach, according to ЈП “Морско добро Црне Горе”. Inspectors notified beach users and ordered red flags to be raised—swimming is prohibited until analyses confirm that the water meets the standards.

An initiative has been sent to the Institute of Marine Biology to continue unscheduled sampling until the readings return to normal.

Water supply from the “Plat” water station to be shut off from September 7 to 17

Due to scheduled maintenance at the “Trebinje” and “Dubrovnik” hydroelectric power plants and repairs to the tunnel between them, the water supply to Herceg Novi will be suspended.

(The gate leading toward Herceg Novi will be closed on September 6 at 22:00.)

📅 Restoration: no later than September 17
(The timeframe may be shortened.)

In the coming days, the “Water Supply and Sewerage” service will clarify the water supply schedule.
