This dramatic poem explores human virtues, vices and weaknesses through the character of Peer Gynt. The play follows the worldwide wanderings of the protagonist, who literally finds everything on his journey except himself.
As G. B. Shaw wrote: “Peer is everyone’s hero. He affects the imagination in the same way as Hamlet, Faust and Mozart’s Don Juan.”
The production deals with identity, escape from responsibility, the search for meaning and confronting oneself. The director’s approach starts from Ibsen’s original text, but interprets it through a contemporary stage language, a fragmented structure, pronounced visuality and expressive acting. The classical dramatic text is connected with the contemporary social context and questions of identity, freedom and responsibility.
